PLAYER OF THE MONTH: April 2006
DIARRA VENNER
The Player of the Month for April 2006 is Diarra Venner, who went undefeated this
month en route to the Vita Malt Junior Open Boys' Under 15 and 17 titles as well as
the O.E.C.S Junior Championships Boys' Under 17 and 19 titles. At the Vita Malt
Junior Open in Trinidad, he claimed his first-ever victory over archrival Justin
Sanguinette, the current Caribbean Boys Under 15 Champion.
PLAYER OF THE MONTH: March 2006
JAMES BENTICK
The Player of the Month for March 2006 is James Bentick, advancing all the way to
the finals of the Consolation Plate at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Australia.
After suffering straight-game losses to Harry Leitch (Scotland) and Hartaj Bains
(Kenya), he recovered by defeating fellow O.E.C.S competitor Joe Chapman and
Malawi's Chikumbutso Mkutumula in straight games, before succombing to Sri
Lanka's Navin Samarasinghe in the final of the consolation plate.

SHANE SLATER
The February Player of the Month is the new Junior Sportsman of the Year Shane
Slater, who won 3 of his 6 matches on the Collegiate Squash Circuit, including a
dramatic 9/7 in the fifth victory in the first round of the College Squash National Men's
Team Championships, giving Franklin and Marshall College a 5-4 win over rivals Bates
College.

SHANE SLATER
The first Player of the Month for 2006 is Shane Slater, who compiled an 8-2 record in
US Collegiate Squash Action. He had a perfect 4-0 weekend at the Yale Round Robin,
helping Franklin and Marshall College to upset wins over Bates College and Bowdoin
College.

SHANE SLATER
The December 2005 Player of the Month is Shane Slater, who completed the first half
of the 2005-2006 US Collegiate Squash Season with losses to Yale's Colin Campbell
(2/9, 4/9, 2/9) and University of Pennsylvania's Sam Peele (2/9, 9/7, 4/9,9/3, 5/9).
Following this, he competed at the US Junior Open, where he won 1st round match
before losing the #4 seed and eventual champion in the 2nd round. He then won his 1st
consolation match before bowing out to American Christopher Vernick.

The Player of the Month for November 2005 is James Bentick, who continued his
dominance over archrival Charlie Sonson to win the Meridian Senior Open Men's
35-44 title with a 9/5, 6/9, 7/9, 9/5, 9/6 victory.

The Player of the Month for October 2005 is Andrez Bascombe, who collected the
Rotherly Junior Open Boys Under 13 title as well winning the Intermediate Juniors
Division at the Independence Junior Squash Tournament.

SHERIAN SLATER
The Player of the Month for August 2005, is the newly crowned Caribbean Women's
40+ Champion - Sherian Slater. Playing undefeated in the Veterans' Team competition
of the 2005 Caribbean Squash Championships, she recorded straight-game victories
over Elizabeth Johnson (BAR) and Deirdre Chin (JAM) while defeating Trinidad's
Cathy Martin 9/4, 9/3, 7/9, 9/2 in her final match.

SHANE SLATER
The Player of the Month for July 2005, is Shane Slater, who lived up to his #1 seeding
by winning the Milex Liguanea Open Men's B title. Later that month, he competed in
the Caribbean Junior Squash Championships, where he won the Boys Under 19 plate
to finish 5th. In the team event, he lead the Boys team to a best-ever 5th place finish, as
the captain.

The Player of the Month for June 2005, is Shane Slater, who charged through the
Men's B Draw of the Barbados Open, defeating the nos. 5, 3, 2 and 1 seeds and
dropping only one game en route to the title. A week later, he competed in the St. Lucia
Open, where he placed 3rd in the Men's Open Plate (11th Overall), defeating Joe
Chapman 9/2, 9/0, 9/0 to confirm his status as the best junior player in the O.E.C.S.

The Player of the Month for May 2005 is James Bentick, who once again confirmed
his status as the “king” of OECS Squash, playing undefeated in the individual and
team events of the 2005 O.E.C.S Squash Championships. In the men’s final, he
claimed yet another victory over his nemesis Charlie Sonson and repeated the feat in
the team event, by an identical 3-1 margin.

The Player of the Month for April 2005 is Shane Slater, who collected a total of 4
titles for the month to register a win-loss record of 18-1. In the Vita Malt Junior Open
in Trinidad, he won the Boys Under 17 title and was awarded as the Most
Outstanding Boy of the tournament. At the O.E.C.S Junior Championships in St.
Lucia, he copped both the Boys Under 17 and 19 titles while not dropping a game
against his 9 opponents. In the National Championships, he successfully defended the
Boys Under 19 title, while finishing 3rd in the Men’s Open, after upsetting the no. 3
seed in the quarter-finals.

The Player of the Month for January 2005 is Shane Slater, who competed at the
highest level at the 2005 British Junior Open. In the qualifying rounds, the nervous
16-year old lost to namesake John Slater (ENG) 0/9, 4/9, 1/9 to be relegated to the
"Lower Section". He then survived a five-game battle against Nick Hornby (ENG),
winning 9/5, 7/9, 2/9, 9/6, 9/4. After his marathon match, Slater couldn't muster the
guts to finish off World Under 17 no. 81 Edward Charlton (ENG), losing 6/9, 7/9,
9/1, 3/9.

SHANE SLATER
The Player of the Month for December 2004 is Shane Slater, who embarked on a
whirlwind international tour, which lead him to his current World Under 17 Ranking of
256. In the OECS Team Championships in St. Lucia, he went undefeated at the no.3
position on the Men's team, clinching a 7/9, 9/3, 9/3, 8/10, 9/3 win in his final match.
In the Canadian Junior Open, he advanced the Bronze draw semi-finals with wins
over Nicolas Acosta (COL) and Brett Pickup (AUS). In the United States Junior
Open, he battled past archrival Iain Redford (BER) 1/9, 9/0, 8/10, 9/2, 10/9 before
bowing out to Americans Christopher Callis and Christopher Ehlinger. In the Scottish
Junior Open he lost a pair of heartbreakers against Lewis Davies-Smith (ENG) and
Christopher Vernick (USA) before defeating Neil Campbell (IRL) 10/8, 9/0, 9/6. He
then succombed to 9th-seeded local Peter Halliday 3/9, 5/9, 4/9.

COLIN ALEXANDER
The Player of the Month for November 2004 is Colin Alexander who successfully
defended his Men's Over 40 title at the Meridian Senior Open. After surviving a scare
in the first round, he made his way to the finals, before clinching the title 3 games to 2.

SHERINA SLATER
Undoubtedly, the Player of the Month for September 2004, goes to 12-year old
Sherina Slater. In the recently concluded Rotherly Junior Open, Sherina continued to
be undefeated in Barbados, winning her 4th consecutive title on the Barbados Junior
Circuit. The young lass was in ruthless form, dropping only 1 point in the final against
Melanie Mark, while destroying all of the other Barbadian hopefuls 27-0. In her 4
matches, Sherina had a win-loss record of 108-1 points.
PLAYER OF THE MONTH: August 2004
JAMES BENTICK
Once again, the Player of the Month award goes to James Bentick, who skyrocketed
to number 3 in the Southern Caribbean Men's Rankings, after stellar performances in
the 2004 Southern Caribbean Squash Championships. For the third time this year,
James overcame archrival Charlie Sonson to place 3rd in the individual event, coming
back from a two-game deficit. In the team event, he pulled off a huge win against
Caribbean no.5 - Paul Deverteuil of Trinidad and Tobago to secure his no.3 position
in the Southern Caribbean.

SVG Squash's pick for July's Player of the Month is newly crowned Caribbean Boys
Under 13 Champ - Diarra Venner. In the 2004 Caribben Junior Squash
Championships, the talented 12-year old marched past all his opponents to claim the
title without dropping a single game. His dominance continued even in the final, when
he claimed a 9/0, 10/8, 9/3 first win over his top-seeded nemesis Akil Ross of
Barbados.
PLAYER OF THE MONTH: June 2004
JAMES BENTICK
Once again, the title of Player of the Month goes to James Bentick, who claimed
another win against archrival St. Lucia's Charlie Sonson in the St. Lucia Open. After
losing a close semi-final match to top-seeded Frenchman Yves Tastet, James
triumped over Charlie 6/9, 9/3, 9/2, 5/9, 9/3 to clinch third place.
PLAYER OF THE MONTH: May 2004
JAMES BENTICK
The undisputed Player of the Month for May 2004, would have to be newly crowned
OECS Champ -  James Bentick. In the 2004 OECS Squash Championships, James
didn't drop a game on his way to claiming the Men's Open title for the first time. In the
process, he also dethroned 13-time consecutive champion Charlie Sonson (St. Lucia),
claiming his first major victory over his archrival (he had beaten him in a team match in
2002). After a close first game, Charlie couldn't keep up with a determined James
Bentick and was thrashed 9/7, 9/1, 9/0. James is also coach of the National Junior
Team and Vice-President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Squash Association.
