The hard work put in by the St. Vincent junior squash team this year, reaped the benefits when they
collected 6 titles in the recently concluded OECS Junior Squash Championships 2004.
In the Boys' Under 13 division, Diarra Venner (SVG) stamped his authority to retain his OECS
Boys' Under 13 title. Andrez Bascombe (SVG) placed second with newcomer Kele Miguel (SVG)
upsetting Ian Sheridan (SVG) to place third.
In the Boys' Under 15 division, Joe Chapman (BVI) surrendered only one point in the tournament to
emerge as champion. John-Henry (LCA) battled through a tight five-game match to finish 2nd over
Joshua Veira (SVG).
Shane Slater (SVG) retained his Boys' Under 17 title from 2003, thrashing his opponents Kai Toney
(SVG), Bradley Glasgow (SVG) and Dominique Rivers (LCA) in the first round, semis and finals
respectively.
After a last-minute withdrawal, Dominic Ollivierre (SVG) defeated compatriot Andrew Dasilva to
claim the Boys' Under 19 title as the only 2 competitors in the age group.
In the Girls' Under 17 division, Amber Glasgow continued to be undefeated in the OECS Junior
Squash Championship, when she outclassed Aiko Roudette (SVG), Melissa Rivers (LCA), Sherina
Slater (SVG) and Isis Gonsalves (SVG) to clinch both the Girls' Under 15 and 17 divisions. Her
exceptional improvement earned her the Most Outstanding Player award, while Andrez Bascombe
was voted as Best Sportsmanship by
the players and coaches. After two team play-off matches, the OECS unveiled it's strongest-ever
team for the 2004 Caribbean Junior Squash Championships in the Cayman Islands. The Boys' team
comprises Diarra Venner (SVG), Joe Chapman (BVI),
Shane Slater (SVG), Dominique Rivers (LCA), Michael Bergasse (LCA) and Dominic Ollivierre
(SVG). The Girls' team comprises Sherina Slater (SVG), Aiko Roudette (SVG), Amber Glasgow
(SVG, pictured above), Melissa Rivers (LCA) and Christa Bonnett (LCA), who was selected prior
to the tournament. Andrez Bascombe (SVG), John-Henry Sweeney (LCA) and Bradley Glasgow
(SVG) have also been selected to compete in the Individual competition.

Action got underway in the 4th OECS Junior Championships, with the top seeds cruising
through their opening matches. Diarra Venner, Joe Chapman, Shane Slater and Michael
Bergasse showed off their skills, whitewashing their opponents 9/0, 9/0, 9/0. All matches
were straightforward 3-0 victories except for the clash between Aiko Roudette and Sherina
Slater. In a very aggressive match, Aiko stayed focussed to emerge the 9/1, 1/9, 9/3, 9/4
winner. Action continues today with some exciting match-ups scheduled to be played in the
various age categories.

On April 23-24, the SVG Squash Association will for the first time, host the OECS Junior
Squash Championships, to be played at the Grand View Fitness Centre. Twenty-three
players from the British Virgin Islands, Saint Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines will
battle for top honours in 5 age divisions. Defending champions Amber Glasgow, Diarra
Venner, Shane Slater and Sherina Slater will be leading a strong 18-player squad for top
spots in the Boys' Under 13, 15, 17 and 19 divisions, along with the Girls' Under 17 event.
One to watch during the championship is 12 year old Sherina Slater who will be fresh from
the Diamond Mineral Water Easter Tournament in Guyana, competing against her much
