SCOTIABANK SUMMER CAMP

Sponsors Scotiabank in association with the SVG Squash Association completed
another successful Junior Squash Summer Camp. The camp ran for two weeks
with some 25 to 30 children enjoying fun activities and games giving them the
early knowledge of the game of squash.
James Bentick, who ran the camp, along with assistance from Kevin Hannaway
and Jules Snagg, said the children learnt new skills such as ball control and
racket head movement. The children were also put through motor skills training
which improves their hand-eye coordination and the perception of moving objects,
in this case, a moving ball.
Bentick also went on to explain that the children were taught the rules of the
game, how to score and referee matches and the meaning of the lines on the
court. A questionnaire was given to the children and Bentick was delighted at the
high percentage of correct answers.
Prizes and awards, along with certificates, were handed out to all the children in
a final day presentation.
The children from the camp will be invited to join and participate in the Saturday
Squash Program which has been running for over eight years. The Saturday
Program has produced such players as Shane Slater, Jules Snagg and current
Under 15 Caribbean Champion Kevin Hannaway.
Bentick, along with the SVG Squash Association, expressed thanks to
Scotiabank for their support and wished for continued support in the future.
