| In a fitting climax to today's matches, two longtime rivals and veterans of the squash court were pitted against each other in the Men's Open Quarter-finals. Paul Cyrus and Leroy Edwards have been playing each other since their junior days back in the '80s, and tonight was no exception. The first game started out with both players testing each other out, with slow, prolonged rallies. Edwards took the first lead at 2-0, but the score was soon tied up again at 2-2. After some more long rallies, the score still sat at 2-2, before Cyrus broke the tie at 3-2. Cyrus continued to edge ahead to reach 5-2, and eventually reached game ball at 8-3, which he won. The second game began with some more testing rallies, with the score stuck at 1-1. Cyrus then took a brief lead at 2-1, before it was tied up again at 2-2. Edwards then took a 3-2 lead, before Cyrus edged ahead 4-3. Edwards took back the lead at 6-4, but once again, Cyrus tied up the score at 6-6. Cyrus then reached game ball at 8-6, to clinch a solid 2-0 lead in games. However, Edwards had other plans, fighting back to win the game 10/8. The score was now tied at 1-1 in games. |

| Again, the score is stuck at 0-0 for the first couple of rallies in the 3rd game. Edwards sustained his momentum, charging ahead to 5-0, before Cyrus registered his first point at 1-5. His comeback continued to 4-5, but Edwards kept the advantage to reach 7-4. Edwards would then go on to win the 3rd game 9/4. In the 4th game, it was Cyrus who took the early lead at 4-0. He edged away further to reach 6-0, and never looked back to take the game 9/1. In the tie-breaking 5th game, some exquisite volley drops gave Cyrus another 4-0 lead. Cyrus then maintained the pressure on a tiring Edwards to seal the match 9/0. |
